Women: Learn How to Take Care of Yourselves

OMG! An entire morning just for me?

Just imagine. A Saturday morning that is yours and yours alone. Isn’t it about time you did something nice for yourself? Go mark Saturday, October 20 from 9 to noon on your calendar right now!

Keep imagining. The day will begin with a leisurely drive in the country. It’s a perfect time of year. Leaves turning, sky bright blue, air crisp.

Your destination? Bridgton, Maine — Stevens Brook Elementary School to be exact. The address is 14 Frances Bell Drive.

You’ll be attending a special event tailored just for you, called:

Self-Care & Empowerment Day for Women
Saturday, October 20
9 am to noon

FREE Admission

The event is a collaboration between Family Crisis Services, Women in Balance, LLC and Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Services/Reach. Organizers wanted to create an opportunity for women to experience what it means to take care of themselves. “Self-care is about taking the time to nurture yourself,” explains Renee O’Connor, outreach advocate at Family Crisis Services. “People do not often consider that a watercolor class or a nature hike can be just as therapeutic as meeting with a counselor. The most important thing to always remember is that there’s no right way to take care of yourself.”

You’ll be able to explore all kinds of interesting, fun, and nurturing things at the event. You’re bound to find something that speaks to your heart and soul.

Deb Ripley, who owns Women in Balance, tries to help women discover their inner strength by using what she calls gentle self-assessment tools. She also helps employers and employees develop wellness in the workplace and produces wellness presentations and health fairs. She sounds like one very busy woman. I sure hope she practices what she preaches! My guess is that she does. I had the pleasure of writing about Deb and her daughter Ana for the Mother’s Day issue of Maine Women Magazine.

Deb says her goal for the event is that women learn how to have fun and enjoy themselves. “So many of us forget how much fun we can have when we get together with a common cause of learning,” she says. “My hope is the day will be filled with learning, laughter, and the chatter of female voices all blending to make a beautiful song!”
